Khajuraho Tourism Holiday Packages

Khajuraho, the heart and soul of Madhya Pradesh, radiates an eclectic mix of beauty and brilliance that has always intrigued its visitor. This small town, named on account of abundant khajur (date) trees found here, is one of the finest examples of architectural geniuses that existed between the 9th and the 12th Centuries. Set foot in this town located in the Bundelkhand region of Chhatarpur and all you’ll see is people lost in admiration. Tourists from across the globe flock the famous Hindu and Jain temples of Khajuraho, which was the first capital of the Chandelas, the rulers of the region in the 9th Century. It is since then that the place is known for its non-religious structures. This historical city has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its erotic carvings and symbols of medieval art. There were a total of 85 temples that were built, out of which only 22 remain as of now that withstood the ravages of nature. The sculptures from the Chandela dynasty signify passion, dance, music, eroticism and other creative arts depicted in the carvings of these temples. Our Khajuraho tourism packages let you explore all of this temple town that signifies it is not just about worship and religion. The sculptures of these 10th and 11th Century temples are an amalgamation of science, art and architecture. Visitors come to Khajuraho to see the art and culture engraved in the stones almost a millennium ago! The western group of temples attract the major tourists while the Southern and the Eastern group of temples are also significantly beautiful. The Western group compromises the temples dedicated to Hindu deities, with the largest temple being the Kandariya Mahadeo dedicated to Lord Shiva. The northern and southern steps of these temples have lions and elephants carved on them respectively. Besides Kandariya Mahadeo, the western group of temples has the Lakshman temple, which was named after the ruler who built it; the Devi Jagdamba temple, the Chaunsat Yogini which is the only granite temple and the Chitragupta temple and Matanageswara temple. The Eastern group of temples consist of the Parsvanath temple, Ghantai temple and Adinath temple, Hanuman temple and Javari temple. The southern group of temples includes Dulhadev temple, Beejamandal temple and the Chattarbhuj or Jatkari temple. While there, do not miss out on the light and sound show at the western group of temples. The show is held every evening with recorded narration by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan. Apart from architectural grandeur, there are many mesmerising places to visit around Khajuraho. The Bandhavgarh National Park is a thick forest that mostly has sal and bamboo trees and is surrounded by the wooded Vindhya mountain. This park has the highest density of tiger population in India. The Panna National Park is only a few kilometres away from Khajuraho and deserves a visit while you are on your vacation. If you are lucky, you can spot tigers in the park during your tour while the milky white waterfalls will tempt you to spend some time with them. The Rane Falls, located in Ken Gharyal Sanctuary, is about 34 kms from Khajuraho and is a must-visit. It is the Ken River that plummets to a 30 metres deep and 5 metres long ravine and the varicoloured granite rocks give an added glow to the waterfall. You may also head to the Khajuraho Dance Festival – held every February or March – for some scintillating performances by renowned artists. Classical dancers from all over India perform in this festival and make your tour worthwhile if you are visiting in these months. The Pandav Falls is another popular place near Khajuraho. Legend has it that the five Pandavas camped here for about one-and-a-half month in the last year of their exile. The surroundings of this waterfall are lush green and also a dwelling place for wild cats and bears. There is a cave that has sculptures of the five Pandava brothers, giving the place its share of footfalls. Around 25 kms from Khajuraho, make a halt at the 150-year-old Rajgarh Palace built by King Bundela. Though the palace has been converted into a hotel now, it houses a museum with a rich collection of antiques from the Bundela period. Near the palace, there is Benisagar Lake, which is also a famous attraction with many facilities available for tourists. With so much to see and do in Khajuraho, you may plan your next visit anytime between October and March, which is considered the best time.
