The Versailles Bike Tour takes you back to the days of distinguished French Kings and Queens. Le Chateau de Versailles gives you a royal taste of Paris. Once you land in Versailles the tour offers a local flavor by taking you to the village market. Moving on from the market after shopping for some eatables, you board your bikes to take the tour of tree-lined gardens and Grand Canal. Enjoy a picnic in Grand Canal as you share your experiences with your fellow riders. You also visit Hall of Mirrors, Chateau and Grand & Petit Trianons.
The tour starts from 24, rue Edgar Faure, Paris. Please make it to the starting point to meet your English-speaking guide. Once you collect your bikes you will ride over to the nearest RER station and board a train for a quick trip to Versailles.
After reaching Versailles you will visit the following:
Hall of Mirrors:The venue for greeting special guests and throwing lavish parties by King Louis XIV in the famous Palace of Versailles. This was the site where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919 to end the World War I officially.
Grand & Petit Trianons: These were built by Kings Louis XIV and XV respectively and provide a terrific view of original Versailles. Each of these is located away from the Chateau in the exterior gardens. They provide a sneak preview of the luxury that the royal family once enjoyed.
The Chateau: Former royal hunting lodge, it became the seat of French governance in 1682. It sheltered the royal family until forcefully driven out by revolutionaries to return to Paris.
Chateau Gardens: Having earned a world-renowned fame, these Gardens worth a visit. If you try exploring them on foot you will end up seeing just a fraction so you go biking through these to have a complete look.
Village Market: Your first opportunity to feel like a local at Versailles. Cheese, Baguettes, Ham, Wine…pick whatever you want to from the village market for a picnic later.
Grand Canal: As you enjoy the scenic views at Grand Canal sitting at the far end corner you enjoy a picnic of a lifetime. With all your fellow riders around, the picnic turns into a feast with the eatables laid out by all. Make a friend or two as you munch happily!
