Jaisalmer Fort: Most alive among all the forts or palaces, the fort was built in 1156 and a quarter of the city’s population still resides in the fort. The fort stands graciously amidst the golden sands of Trikuta Hill. The fort has been witness to many battles and takes proud in its glorious history. The honey- gold color of it’s massive walls rightly give it the name of ‘Golden Fort’.
Nathmal Ji ki Haveli: Constructed by two brothers, Hathi and Lulu, famous for their unique architectural creativity, took care of left and right side of the building independently and later it turned out to be amazingly similar adding beauty to the exterior look. This haveli is considered the best in Jaisalmer in terms of its grandeur. The architecture present in this haveli is quite different from the one popular in other parts of Jaisalmer.
Patwan Ji ki Haveli: One of the largest and most elaborate havelis in Jaisalmer, it is five storeys high and is extensively carved. Divided into six apartments, two are owned by Archaeological Survey of India, other two by families who operate craft-shops and the remaining two are used as private homes. It is most frequented by tourists as it was the first haveli of the city.
Salim Ji ki Haveli:Built around 300 years ago, a part of this haveli is still occupied. Salim Singh’s mansion has beautifully arched roof with superb carvings in brackets. This haveli is famous for its unique architecture inspired by beautiful peacocks. Different views of the city can be taken from different balconies. As many as 38 balconies are there in the haveli which all are spacious and give spectacular views of Jaisalmer. It’s also known as Jahaz Mahal because of its look resembling to a ship stern from the front.
Tazia Tower: Tazia tower was constructed by Muslim craftsmen as a memento of honour to their royal patron and is based on the shape of a Tazia. It is a five storey splendor with each tier having a significance of its own. On each floor there is a balcony that is famous for their individual designs and delicate carvings. Tazia tower rises from Badal Mahal (Cloud Palace). It has historic as well as architectural importance as it was made with wood and thermocol and was decorated with colorful papers.
Desert National Park: Desert National Park is considered among the largest natural reserves of India. The desert is quite inhospitable with its harsh conditions and so most of the fauna and flora live on the edges. Nevertheless this place attracts large hoard of migratory birds due to its close proximity to Bharatpur. The view of the park is no less than a landscape of small rocks, extinct lake beds, thorny shrubs and desert animals. More than 40 species of reptiles can be found here along with sand fish and desert fox. It’s a unique experience to witness life existing in such harsh conditions.
Gadsisar Lake: Built in 14th century, it was a rain water conservation lake. Situated in the outskirts of Jaipur, it used to be the main source of drinking water for whole city of Jaisalmer. A beautiful arched gateway known as ‘Tillon ki Pol’ leads to a small tank flanked by shrines and you should also visit its beautiful gardens with flower beds. The lake is one of the major city attractions and an idyllic spot for outings.
Sam Sand Dunes: It is the most popular excursion to see the beauty of deserts and sand dunes. Sam is the closest point from where the Thar starts. You can witness the golden red stretches of sands and sweeping sand dunes with air. Enjoy the ride on Ship of Desert- Camel. The most picturesque and unique experience of Rajasthan is to ride on the Ship of Desert (Camel) amongst silken smooth sands of Sam.
