Istanbul is the economic and cultural centre of Turkey and is the second important city after the capital Ankara. Istanbul is a city which is located on two continents that is Europe and Asia. The city used to be link between the two continents and is a very old city. The city has the heritage of three eras namely Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire and Ottoman Empire. Visit the Haghia Sophia Church, the pride and glory of the Byzantine architecture. See the famous Blue Mosque, famous for its Islamic architecture and for its blue tiles. Visit the Byzantine Hippodrome, where chariot races used to held in the antiquity and see the Grand Bazaar, largest covered market with nearly 4000 shops. Check out the various handicrafts, artefacts, curios, Turkish carpets, glazed tiles, pottery, leather apparel, alabaster bookends and all sorts of interesting gift items. Visit the Topkapi Palace, which used to be the famous residence of the Sultans (excluding the Harem section) for 4 centuries. This palace is one the largest and oldest standing palaces in the world.
